Surprised "in darkness" wasn't included in your foreign choices. I guess it's only being released in 2012 here though

Exactly right. It had its brief qualifying run in NY and LA, but I wasn't able to attend those screenings. I'll have to consider it among next year's crop. (This was the case with "Life, Above All," South Africa's 2010 submission. It finally received a limited release last July and I saw it then. Lead actress Khomotso Manyaka is among this year's nominees.)

Impressive list

A list that includes 'Tree of Life' but not 'Melancholia'? I pass. My thought at the end of 'Melancholia' was, "Terence Malick, eat your heart out."

Hey, my Steebert - where you been? Glad to be getting my annual dose of GSs. Wow, declaring The Tree of Life best pic - that takes some, uh, internal fortitude! You are the man! I must see Michael Shannon in Take Shelter - have you caught him yet in Boardwalk Empire? One intense dude - a pressure cooker - controlled, yet could blow at any second. So glad to see continued success for Bret McKenzie. Wish those Conchords hadn't taken flight. Can't bring myself to remove FOTC from my DVR - need the space but can't erase. Keep it up - need more of you more often. Later, Allnut
